My Time as a Summer Intern

As my time as a summer intern comes to an end at AAFW-NEI I am realizing just how fast time really flies by. This is my first time interning remotely and while it surely was different I must say that it was an invaluable experience that I will never forget. I had the opportunity to work with Peggy and Hope, two amazing women who have taught me so much about interning for a non-profit organization!

Below is a list of things that I have acquired from this incredible experience:

  1. How to schedule posts via HootSuite (scheduling posts is such a time saver!)
  2. Discovering how to publish blog posts on their website. I had a great time writing blog posts and I feel as though it was an opportunity for me to improve some of my writing skills. I had no clue how to go in and publish blog posts on websites before this!
  3. Learned what it's like to have to deal with any unfortunate event that comes your way. I know that Peggy and Hope put a lot of time into planning certain events and although they were canceled due to COVID-19 the two of them were able to come up with great solutions!
  4. How to send emails and make calls to associate members (prior to this I didn’t really have much experience with calling multiple people a day to check on things)
  5. Learned how to navigate Zoom meetings (which was crucial when working in the middle of a global pandemic!)
  6. How to create customized digital content.
  7. How to network with others- the Breakfast Connection meetings were a great way to meet associate members!

Initially, I wasn't sure how I would manage working remotely. However, over time I've come to the realization, this could very well become our new normal.  While the situation may not be ideal, it behooves each of us to remember that we are all in this together. I would like to thank Peggy and Hope for such an incredible experience. I can’t wait for us to meet in person!

Sincerely,

Aleah Sewell
