A New Take on Working from Home

The “co-work” model is a lucrative way for apartment communities to please their residents.

Working from home or in a coffee shop is no longer the most agreeable option for people who can benefit from areas where people can collaborate and distractions are kept low.

Co-working is an expanding business model that apartment communities could significantly benefit from. This non-traditional office concept caters to corporate employees who work in remote locations, contractors wishing to get away from managing a full office space, overflow employees from nearby businesses, and telecommuters who prefer to work near where they live.

Apartment developer and owner, Wood Partners, had noticed a rise in the number of residents who telecommute, so they introduced this approach and have seen increases in revenue with every development they add a co-working space to.

Co-working spaces often feature a combination of open floor plan design and private office spaces. The managers of the space, then charge rental for private offices of varying sizes, a designated desk belonging to one person in a shared office, or a hot desk with access to an open workspace in a common area. Size always varies depending on demand. Office spaces can have room for a single individual or a team.

Typically, co-working spaces offer a variety of amenities. These can include printing, Wi-Fi, sound-proof phone booths, coffee, snack bars, on-site support staff, cleaning staff, wellness rooms, conference rooms, and fruit water.

Co-working spaces present the potential to usher in new economic success in Indiana by bringing in entrepreneurs and new talent. Decatur Coworks is one such example of a co-working space in North East Indiana. They offer several spaces and plenty of amenities for members, including bottomless coffee and dry cleaning. Downtown Decatur is also seeing the construction of 2nd Street Lofts and Coworking Space which will boast gorgeous exposed brick and ductwork in theme with the artful metal sculptures produced by Decatur residents.

Start Fort Wayne is another business paving the way for entrepreneurs and creative minds to feel welcome in the city. Atrium is one of their projects bringing co-working spaces to Downtown Fort Wayne.  They offer a variety of spaces, where members can engage in a thriving, change-making community.

Co-working is a growing business approach that benefits property owners and residents alike, while promoting entrepreneurship and innovation. If you have room for development, co-working spaces present a creative, practical, and efficient use of opportunity.
